Call for Papers
September 28 - 31, 2026
The Department of History and Philosophy at Montana State University invites you to the Sixty-First Northern Great Plains History Conference in Bozeman, Montana. The conference begins on the evening of October 28 and will conclude by noon of October 31, 2026.
The conference will be held on Montana State University’s campus.
Proposals for individual papers and completed sessions are sought in all fields of history.
Please send general session proposals for papers and/or panels to Micah Chang at ngphc2026@gmail.com.
We welcome panels and individual papers focused on women’s history and these should go to: j.mccutchen@stthomas.edu.
Military history proposals should go to: smhatngphc@gmail.com
The Northern Great Plains History Conference, which was founded and sustained by both US and Canadian institutions, extends a special invitation to Canadians to present in Bozeman, Montana. If Canadian historians find travelling in person to present in the United States problematic at this time, the conference will allow special access through videoconferencing methods.
Please submit proposals by April 17, 2026.
Individual paper proposals should include a one-paragraph abstract and a one-page curriculum vitae. Session proposals should include a brief session abstract, and a short abstract and one-page curriculum vitae for each presenter in the session. Proposals for roundtables should include a session abstract and a one-page c.v. for each participant. Please indicate any audio-visual requirements. Participants must provide their own laptop.
The Northern Great Plains History Conference welcomes graduate and undergraduate student participants and offers prizes in several categories. For more on paper prizes please see: https://www.ngphconference.org/student-prizes
